High-sensitivity CRP measures low-grade inflammation linked to cardiovascular disease.
Unlike a standard CRP test, hs-CRP can measure very low levels of C-reactive protein, which can reflect background inflammation. A raised result is not specific to the heart, and a recent infection, injury or other inflammatory condition can raise it. The Australian cardiovascular risk guideline advises against routinely using hs-CRP in cardiovascular risk assessment, so your GP reads it alongside your cholesterol, blood pressure and other risk factors.
