A proxy for growth hormone — and a window into metabolic ageing
IGF-1 is more stable than growth hormone itself — making it the preferred marker for assessing the GH axis.
Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) is produced mainly in the liver in response to growth hormone (GH) stimulation. Because GH is released in pulses, a single GH measurement is unreliable — IGF-1 reflects integrated GH activity over time. IGF-1 declines with age and is influenced by nutritional status, liver function, and body composition. It is used in the investigation of growth hormone deficiency in adults, and in some longevity and metabolic health contexts.
IGF-1 reference ranges vary substantially by age — your full report includes age-appropriate context
Within range but on the lower side — interpretation is age-dependent
Low IGF-1 may suggest growth hormone deficiency or suboptimal nutritional status — discuss with your healthcare practitioner
Elevated IGF-1 may warrant investigation — discuss with your healthcare practitioner
Reference ranges vary by laboratory and personal context. Your result is shown against the lab's range in your dashboard, alongside what it means.
