Methylmalonic acid (MMA) provides insight into how your body is utilising B12 at the cellular level, adding context that a standard serum B12 test alone may not capture.
When B12 utilisation is suboptimal, MMA can accumulate because B12 is required as a cofactor to break it down. This makes MMA particularly useful when serum B12 falls in the grey zone (150-300 pmol/L) and your health practitioner needs additional context to guide next steps.
