Methylmalonic acid (MMA) provides insight into how your body is utilising B12 at the cellular level, adding context that a standard serum B12 test alone may not capture.
MMA is one of the functional markers that rise when tissues are not getting enough B12. This is why it is one of the markers a GP may add when a serum B12 result is indeterminate (133 to 258 pmol/L on one Australian clinical guide, though cut-offs vary between laboratories).
